For anyone, anytime, anywhere. The new ZDF media library also reaches the next generation.
The new ZDFmediathek combines the traditional television experience with neat on-demand offerings and interactive social media functions. That goes down well. With traditional viewers, but above all with new target groups. A big step for ZDF’s digital transformation.
Television of the future. Take a look.
More than 90 million visits per month!
Traditional, linear television is still a common part of our day-to-day lives. But needs and expectations are changing. Growing numbers of people want to consume video content whenever and wherever they feel like it – and to use the functions they know from social media in the process.
That’s why the goal of relaunching the media library meant nothing less than designing the television of the future – and creating a product that declares war on modern streaming and on-demand platforms. And in case you were wondering: We succeeded.
Number one. Together with Netflix.
Content flow and structure, design and user guidance: In a co-creation process and intensive workshops with ZDF, we turned everything upside down and developed an integrated and user-centric concept.
And our work paid off: 81 percent of users are satisfied or very satisfied with the new ZDFmediathek. Among 14- to 29-year-olds, that number even rises to 88 percent, making the ZDFmediathek the top-rated streaming service and media library alongside Netflix.
The high level of satisfaction among younger users in particular encourages us to continue expanding this important platform.
Distinguished. Juries praise the user experience.
If you ask us what makes the ZDFmediathek so successful, it’s the user experience. The media library is clearly designed, intuitive to use, and also fun to use on mobile devices. That’s what we wanted, and that’s how independent juries see it. The new ZDFmediathek received prestigious awards shortly after it went live.
User-centric. From the concept to the finished solution.
What expectations do the users have and how can the various ZDF editorial offices meet them as efficiently as possible? Together with ZDF’s experts, we first developed a digital strategy and then a concept that maps the customer journey across all devices.
And then we implemented it: We built the responsive front end, all microservices, and the entire back end on the basis of the content management system “Sophora” by Subshell, from which all ZDF platforms ultimately receive their content.
Thanks to microservices.
The system architecture of the back end is based exclusively on microservices. These small autonomous processes with language-independent programming interfaces are integrated as separate modules. Therefore, the system is quick and easy to expand, and individual elements can be easily removed or replaced.
